Three Dog Night
Legendary music icons, THREE DOG NIGHT, celebrate their 4th decade bringing with them some of the most astonishing statistics in popular music. In the years 1969 through 1974, no other group achieved more top 10 hits, moved more records or sold more concert tickets than THREE DOG NIGHT.
THREE DOG NIGHT's hits wind through the fabric of pop culture today, whether on the radio where they are heard day in and day out, in TV commercials or in major motion pictures -- songs like "Mama Told Me (Not To Come)", "Joy to the World", "Black and White", "Shambala" and "One" serve to heighten our emotions and crystallize THREE DOG NIGHT's continuing popularity.
This Grammy-nominated band is not content resting on their legacy alone. Always working to expand their audience, THREE DOG NIGHT have embraced and been embraced by 21st century music technology. New fans buy THREE DOG NIGHT's music on iTunes as well as at record stores. In fact, their releases from this decade alone have sold well over a million and a half albums and the band's continued popularity has landed "The Best of Three Dog Night : 20th Century Masters" on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart for 9 of the last 12 months.
Recently, THREE DOG NIGHT began adding new songs to their arsenal by releasing their first double-A sided single in nearly 25 years. The blistering performance of "Heart Of Blues" and the timely, beautiful a-cappella ballad "Prayer of the Children" are available online at iTunes, Amazon.com and other digital retailers as well as through the official band website (www.threedognight.com), and their Facebook and MySpace sites.
THREE DOG NIGHT also pushed boundaries by recording with the London Symphony Orchestra, giving fans new and old a chance to experience their dynamic performances of the hits as well as two new songs. The project, recorded at the famous Abbey Road studios in London and released to coincide with the band's 35th Anniversary, added exciting new orchestral arrangements to THREE DOG NIGHT's signature sound.
THREE DOG NIGHT maintain an aggressive, year-round touring schedule of over 80 dates a year. Their well-loved hits, delivered in their unmistakable style, are performed for audiences spanning generations, by founding members Cory Wells and Danny Hutton on lead vocals, as well as original keyboardist Jimmy Greenspoon and guitarist Michael Allsup. Paul Kingery (bass and vocals) and Pat Bautz (drums) complete the lineup.
The year 2010 marks the 40th Anniversary of perennial classic-rock favorite, America. Founding members, Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell (along with former band mate Dan Peek) met in high school in London in the late 1960s and quickly harmonized their way to the top of the charts on the strength of their signature song "A Horse With No Name". America became a global household name and paved the way with an impressive string of hits following the success of their first #1 single. Forty years later, these friends are still making music together, touring the world and thrilling audiences with their timeless sound.
America's journey has found them exploring a wide variety of musical terrain. Their best-known tunes, which also include "I Need You," "Ventura Highway," "Don't Cross The River," "Tin Man," "Lonely People," and "Sister Golden Hair" were cornerstones of 1970's Top 40 and FM rock radio. Yet beyond their impressive catalog of hits, listeners would discover there was always much more to America than surface perceptions. The combination of Gerry Beckley's melodic pop rock and Dewey Bunnell's use of folk-jazz elements, slinky Latin-leaning rhythms and impressionistic lyric imagery contrasted well with Dan Peek's more traditional country-rock leanings and highly personal lyrics.
America's albums--six certified gold and/or platinum, with their first greatest hits collection, History, hitting four+ million in sales--displayed a fuller range of the trio's talents than did their singles. Their material encompassed an ambitious artistic swath; from effects-laden rockers to oddball medleys to soul-bearing ballads, America displayed a flawless blend of disparate genres and styles as wide-open as the great American plains.
Enjoying massive success early in their career, America earned their stripes as musical soldiers on the battlefield amidst the excess, craziness and chaos of the 70's. The trio won the Grammy® for Best New Artist in 1972 and began working with George Martin and Geoff Emerick in 1974. This successful team went on to record seven albums and several Top Ten hits, including "Tin Man" and "Sister Golden Hair".
"Low Rider," "Cisco Kid," "Why Can't We Be Friends?" "The World is a Ghetto" "Slippin' into Darkness" "Spill the Wine"
WAR's long-hailed musical virtuosity and influences, which include, jazz, rock, funk, soul, R&B, and Latin, have impacted their fans, as well as other musicians, regardless of race, generation, or genre. Founding member, Lonnie Jordan, states that this is one "WAR" that has truly brought people together for peace, love, and harmony.
WAR is not a band. WAR is a Movement!
In the late 1960's, WAR was created by producer-songwriter Jerry Goldstein and British singer Eric Burdon. In the members of the band that would become known as WAR, Burdon found musicians who were able to back his improvisational flights-of-fancy with the ease of jazz masters. A reviewer from Headline, England's New Musical Express, called WAR "the best live band I ever saw" after their first UK gig in London's Hyde Park. In 1971, Eric Burdon and WAR's second album, a two-disc set titled The Black-Man's Burdon, was released. Eric Burdon and WAR are best known for their jamming style on their hit singles "Spill the Wine" and "Tobacco Road." Their albums together, Eric Burdon Declares WAR and The Black-Man's Burdon, soon became cultural touchstones of the '60s and early '70s. WAR's career skyrocketed in the early 1970's with the release of "Slippin' into Darkness" and "Me and Baby Brother as their exhilarating sound spoke to millions of Americans about the troubled times of Vietnam and Watergate as well as the tensions of the inner cities and racial strife. Long before the late Eazy-E and NWA released their multi-platinum selling album Straight Outta Compton, WAR's lead singer and founding band member Lonnie Jordan was already putting Compton on the musical map. From his home base in Los Angeles, he recorded an international string of chart-topping songs, hit after hit.
In 1972, they released The World Is a Ghetto which was very successful. Its second single, "The Cisco Kid" shipped gold, and the album attained the number one spot on Billboard, and was Billboard magazine's Album of the Year as the best-selling album of 1973. In 1975 when the Russians and Americans hooked up together in space, NASA played their gold anthem "Why Can't We Be Friends?" Jumping ahead 38 years later, WAR was invited to play the theme song, "Why Can't We Unfriend?" for National Facebook "Unfriend" Day on Jimmy Kimmel Live! WAR's music and history transcends generations of pop culture and has a universal appeal to parents, grandparents, and children across the world.
In the late 1960's Roger Earl & Lonesome Dave Peverett first toured America as members of the seminal British band "Savoy Brown". Together with guitarist Kim Simmonds, "Savoy Brown" was on the cutting edge of the emerging British blues-rock scene, and they influenced countless musicians on both sides of the "pond". In 1971, wanting to give a more Rock 'n Roll flavor to the blues-boogie music they were playing with "Savoy", Dave & Roger enlisted lead/slide guitarist Rod Price & bassist Tony Stevens, formed a new band, "Foghat", and the rest is part of Rock and Roll history.
Signed by Albert Grossman to Bearsville Records in 1971, the band recorded their first self-titled LP "Foghat" and began touring relentlessly for the next 14 years. Their hard work has thus far been rewarded with seven Gold records, one Platinum record "Fool For The City" (1975), and one Double-Platinum record "Foghat Live" (1977). The "Fool For The City" album contained Foghat's trademark Top 40 hit song "Slow Ride" and cemented their place as one of the world's top rock acts. They continued to hit the charts in the 1970's with singles such as "Fool For The City", "Drivin' Wheel", "I Just Wanna Make Love To You", "I'll Be Standing By", "Stone Blue", "Third Time Lucky" and "Somebody's Been Sleeping In My Bed"… many of which are still classic rock radio staples.
Foghat toured and recorded non-stop into the mid-eighties. Tony Stevens had left the band in 1974 to pursue other interests, and was replaced by bassist Craig MacGregor (with a short stint with Nick Jameson in between). Rod Price departed the band in 1980. In 1985 Lonesome Dave returned to England for a well-deserved break from touring, while Roger remained in the US and continued to carry the Foghat flag with non-stop touring with various new musicians and Foghat alumni. In 1989 Lonesome Dave resumed touring in the states with future member Bryan Bassett. But it is 1994 that marks the return of Foghat to the world stage, when the original members reunite for the recording of "Return of the Boogie Men". Being back on the road, non-stop, once again yielded a new live CD for the band titled "Road Cases", released in 1997.
Jackyl w / Jesse James Dupree
It's been nearly 20 years since Jackyl shot out of Georgia with its wild, untamed and uncouth approach to rock 'n' roll. Equal parts hard rock, heavy metal and Southern rock, Jackyl formed in 1991 and brought back rock 'n' roll back -- back to its down-to-earth, wild, fun-loving origins. Full of spit and swagger -- and a "dirty" sense of humor to boot -- Jackyl quickly earned a deal with Geffen Records. Jackyl's live shows were already legendary before the ink dried on the Geffen contract.
The 1992 self-titled debut album went platinum and featured notable rock radio hits like "Down On Me," "When Will It Rain," "I Stand Alone" and, most notably, "The Lumberjack," during which vocalist Jesse James Dupree performed a chain-saw solo. Dupree's chain-saw escapades on album and in concert became one of many Jackyl trademarks. With the release of 'Jackyl' hit the road and barely left it since. Just long enough to record new albums. Touring mates in those early days included Aerosmith, Kiss, ZZ Top, Ted Nugent and Damn Yankees. 1993 saw "Mental *@%.!" featured on 'The Beavis & Butt-head Experience,' a compilation album of songs tied in with MTV's hit cartoon series; it was eventually certified triple platinum. 1994 was one of the most important years in the band's career. The second album, 'Push Comes To Shove,' hit the streets and went gold. That August, Jackyl turned in one of the most acclaimed performances at Woodstock '94 in Saugerties, NY, and the resulting double album 'Woodstock 94' went platinum and included "Headed For Destruction" (a track from 'Push Comes To Shove'). The live recording 'Night Of The Living Dead' was released exclusively in Europe on Mayhem Records in 1996.
Bastard Bearded Irishmen
The Pittsburgh-based Bastard Bearded Irishmen fill the void of Irish rock n' roll between Boston and LA. They are cutting their own path, inspired by bands like The Dubliners, The Pogues, Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly with an original, ferocious blend of rock, punk, acoustic and traditional, as well as contemporary Celtic. Through great music, energetic performance, friendly attitudes and intricacies that only the Irishmen can provide, they have quickly become Pittsburgh's favorite Celtic rock band. Bastard Bearded Irishmen, or BBI, began playing bars and small venues and since October 2008, have expanded their resume to include citywide events such as Pittsburgh Irish Festival, Shamrockin' and an opening slot on the 2011 Dropkick Murphy's Shamrock N Roll Tour in Pittsburgh, as well as a headlining slot on 105.9 The X's Halloween Party, and much more. In October (2012) the band was voted the Best Rock Band in Pittsburgh by the Pittsburgh City Paper's annual "Best of Pittsburgh" issue. Their formula is simple: upbeat tunes about beer, whiskey, booze and pretty lasses. They'll play classics like "Black Velvet Band" and "Whiskey in the Jar," and rock you with originals like "Mutiny" and "Drinkem', Drankem', Drunkem'." Although they are the consummate musical professionals (Danny has a Master's degree in classical guitar, Rachel is a classically trained violist), these guys also know how to have fun and definitely don't take themselves too seriously. The music will be great, you'll want to tap your toe or dance and they promise that you will be entertained and left begging for more!
